1) Are Maid Of Honor Speeches Supposed To Be Funny?
I just finished my maid of honor speech for my best friend’s wedding next month and I read it to my husband. He said the speech was supposed to be funny and that because it wasn’t, it was a little boring. I thought it was supposed to be from the heart and didn’t have to be funny if I didn’t want it to be. What do people do for these kinds of speeches?

First there is no traditional Maid of Honor speech. When you do speak it should come from the heart. If you are a naturally funny person as some are then it will be funny but to write out and memorize a speech and then try to be funny with it is going to come off stilted and false and you probably will not remember it all well enough to gvie a good delivery. Much better to stick to what you know and who you are. Tell you friend how happy you are that she has found someone and how happy you are for the joy they have found. No more need be said. There is no tradition of there being anything funny about any speeches, not that they can’t be but there is no necessity, true feelings are better than false forced humor.

1) Wedding Toast???
I’m planning on giving a toast at my friend’s wedding. I have looked at examples on the internet, and of course I will make my toast a “personal” one and not copy it from somewhere else. But I am wondering what some of you have said at a wedding. I’m just looking for ideas on how to start it off…how long it should be…etc. I have never done this before and I just need a little help! Thanks so much for any responses!

OK, this may be a little long, but I actually went upstairs and dug this out of a drawer. I wrote this for my husband, with his help, for his brother when my husband was best man. This brother was best man for us and gave a similar toast for us. People still talk about both.

Good Afternoon! I am, as many of you know, the “best man” and Javier’s brother. Javier was my best man and had a few words of advice for me at my wedding almost 2 years ago. Now, I have some for the happy couple.

Javier, you are a lucky man. Irene is a likable, intelligent, and commendable woman. No one has anything bad to say or even dislikes her in any way. It is obvious that she has made you very happy.

It is also obvious, Irene, that you are a risk-taker. As his former roommate, I know what it is like to sleep with him, and I have some words of advice. Irene, I’d like to give you a pair of tools to make life easier in the years to come.

First, I’d like to give you these bells so you know where your husband is during the night. I don’t want you getting phone calls from the neighbors telling you there is a naked man wandering around in front of your house. That man, of course, would be Javier. he has a tendency to walk in his sleep, regardless of what he’s wearing-or not wearing.

Last, there is a tried and true method of calming Javier down in any situation. Just a bar of chocolate like this (He gave her one.) will instantly put him in a better mood. Keep lots on hand at all times.

Now, let us raise our glasses in honor of Irene and Javier. That they always experience health and prosperity and that their love for each other grows stronger everyday of a long life of happiness! To Irene and Javier, Salud!

5) Groom Speech Help Needed? For Guys Only.?
My friend is getting married, and he was told to give a speech before the PHOTO SECTION (at the end of the wedding ceremony in the morning).

He wishes to be elegant, while not pretentious. He asked me for advice, and we discussed for one good hour but not coming up with any good lines. Therefore I wish to ask you guys for help on behalf of him. It is preferably your own bloom speech.

Guys, some say grooms never give speeches. Just pretend you were the groom, and you were asked to give a short speech just before the PHOTO SECTION, what would you say?

I would like to first thank You all for coming to share the best day of my life so far, and I know this is just the beginning of lots more best days in the years to come for ________and I. I know that many of you traveled to be here and I would like you to know how much it means to us.

Just wing it…that’s what my brother in law did that was our best man. It was more funny that way. I know he said something like now somebody else has to put up with him & wished us good luck & many years of happiness & thanked the guests for coming to celebrate with us.

7) What Should The Groom Say In His Speech, When His Bride Is Pregnant?
Should he not mention it, or should he talk about it, and toast his bride and forthcoming baby?

my groom and i did not make a speech, but we did say a few words, thanking those who came and those who helped. nothing that we had prepared though.

Wedding Toasts – my 5 Tips

1) Wedding Toasts?
Who usually gives the wedding toasts? How many people should give them? Is there a particular order for the toasts? And how long should each last?

You definitely want to limit who gives toasts or it will turn into a toast a palooza, which you don’t want. Usually the most typically people and order is as follows:

Father of the Bride
Best Man
Maid of Honor
and
possibly a blanket thank you from the bride and the groom.

2) What Would Be A Good Drink To Use For Wedding Toasts?
I am getting married in 2 weeks and my fiance and I are stuck on what kind of drink to use for the wedding toasts. I am not a wine person, it gives me bad headaches, and my maid of honor is pregnant. Please help. We need something good and that won’t make every ones faces scrunch up.

Haha. Okay I know this isn’t very traditional, and by now my groom & I have voilated so many wedding rules it’d bring martha stewart to tears. But we’re toasting with homemade wine coolers. It’s just easier to stomach than “the real thing.” We taste tested these drinks at our engagement party. The berry wine cooler & strawberry were the most popular. The strawberry was easiest to make (blackberry juice is pricy and hard to find) so we decided to go with that. Plus it looks better in toasting glasses.

Here’s a berry wine cooler.
4 oz Chablis® white wine
6 oz 7-Up® soda
1/2 oz blackberry juice
1/2 oz raspberry juice
1/2 oz strawberry juice
1/2 oz blueberry juice

This is a melon wine cooler (yummy)
1 honeydew melon
2 lemons, thinly sliced
Juice of 2 limes
3 bottles Chablis, Sauterne or other white dinner wine
1 bottle champagne, chilled

1. Cut honeydew melon in half. Scoop out seeds. Use a melon-baller to scoop out perfectly shaped melon balls. Place them in punch bowl.
2. Add lemon slices. Pour in lime juice. Add wine. Cover and chill at least 1 hour.

I’ve seen spice wine coolers at winter weddings (which ours is) but it didn’t go over as well with the guests as the fruity ones:
1 1/2 c. boiling water
6 Lipton Cinnamon Apple Herbal Tea Bags
1/3 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. cold water
1 c. white wine
2 tsp. lemon juice
Club soda, chilled

**** This one tastes awesome and, if you can get the strawberrys just so – it looks like a blush wine. The mint gave it a very crisp taste:

2 c. strawberries, hulled
4 lemon slices
2 lg. mint sprigs
1 bottle white zinfandel, chilled

Cut strawberries in half. Place in large pitcher with lemon slices and mint. Pour in wine. Serve chilled. Serves 6.

I would probably 86 the lemon slices, melon balls and any other floaty fruits – just for the toasts. But crack ‘em out for the reception!

3) Not Serving Champagne During The Wedding Toasts?
Because our budget is limited, we were hoping to cut costs by not serving champagne to our guests during our toasts. Is this seen as rude? Should we serve champagne to the person making the toast? What are some other ideas of how we could do this? Thanks!

People can just toast with whatever they’re drinking – wine, soda etc. I wouldn’t serve champagne to only the person making the toast – that seems a bit unfair. Better to have no champagne at all than only for the ‘chosen’ guests. You could consider making some kind of non-alcoholic punch to toast with – sprite mixed with a flavor/color would work well for this. That would be a good substitute for the toast as well.

4) What Order Do Wedding Toasts Go In?
Here is how I have it set up now, do you think I should switch it up?

Toast to the bride
Toast to the groom
Toast to the bridesmaids
Toast to the groomsmen
Groom’s parents welcome the bride to the family
Bride’s parents welcome the groom to the family
Bride and Groom’s thank yous

Is there anything else?

The order is entirely up to you.

Typically, the best man opens with the first toast, and the parents of the groom or the bride and groom themselves will close out the toasts for the evening.

The rest if whatever you prefer.

5) Where Can I Get A Book Of Toasts That Includes Wedding Toasts?
I need a good original toast to give at my friend’s wedding.

1) What Should I Write In My Best Man Speech For My Dads Wedding?
My dad is getting married at the end of the month and I’m having a bit of trouble coming up with my ‘best man’ speech. I’ve looked online but there really isnt much help for daughter’s being their father’s best man.

A friend is getting married soon and I’m the best man. Need a few ideas for the speech – need to figure out the structure of the speech. Friend’s last name is Wright, so I thought it would be funny to say something like that – “Today we celebrate the day that SOANDSO is finally WRIGHT (RIGHT), I mean…A Wright.”

1) Open with a funny joke (not the one you wrote – so lame)
2) Bring up a fond memory but not an embarrassing one.
3) Say how much SHE has changed him for the better & you’ve never seen him smile like he does when he’s with her.
4) Tell her she’s beautiful & he will make her very happy
5) Ending with a toast.

Our best friend is getting married in two weeks and my husband is freaking out over a best man speech. He needs my help but I’ve only been to a few weddings and not sure how to help, every web site i’ve been on you have to subscribe to somthing. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

My brother-in-law did the speech at our wedding and he just told a few funny stories about him and my husband and one thing he said that was funny “i’ve been married 2 years and i’ve learned there’s 2 ways to argueing…………………………and neither one works”….haha…..and then he welcomed me to the family and we all did a toast.
